In the blog post, What it Takes to be More Than the Rest, we reintroduced you to Jabez who prayed a prayer that changed his world and rocked our world. I will now give you the first of my three takeaways-Be More Different than the Rest. Jabez possessed an attribute that had nothing at all to do with his powerful prayer, but had everything to do with how he transformed his world, his home, his family, his life…and you too can do the same.

Takeaway 1: Be More Different than The Rest

“There was a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers.”

Jabez was more honorable than any of his brothers. He was unlike anyone else in his family. There was something that set him apart from the others in his family. He stood out. He was more different than the rest. Are you hearing these words? He somehow became uncommon, not like the others, he became what I call, no-longer-common. He became something even his brothers were not.

Has anyone ever said that you were more different than the rest of the group? If you ask my family and even my friends, they would all agree that I am certainly different. There’s a quote that I have used as long as I can remember to describe me. I often quote to others that “I am more different than anyone else you will ever meet.” For the longest, I had no idea why I thought of myself as different from anyone else. Understanding this aspect gave birth to NoLongerCommon.com.

What’s waiting to be born because you haven’t settled in your mind that you’re different? You have big dreams. There’s a company inside of you waiting to launch. There’s a book, an app, even a church that’s waiting to be birthed.
Have you ever been given a designation that no one else in the class has been given? If the answer to this question is “no” then you’re just like the rest and a wonderful opportunity awaits you. You can become like Jabez, more honorable than the rest.

Now here’s what you’ve been waiting for…if you want to have the results of a “Jabez”, that means you will need to become more than those closest to you. Please don’t take offense to these words… Nah, better yet, take offense. What’s inside of you is too great for me not to go there with you. It’s time for you to break the mold even if it means separating yourself from your family, your past or your failures. You don’t have to wear the labels of your family, your culture and society. Don’t stop at the limitations of others and become uncommon, like Jazeb.  Be more different than the rest!
